Welcome to the Outback Photography tips and tricks page. This page will be the hub for all our training videos, blog posts with photo articles and links to other resources to help you with your photography. I think that about covers the intro.

You will notice a lot of the pictures and some video content will be watermarked. Mostly we will use our registered Australian trading name, Excitations, or a variant of that name. I mention that just to avoid confusion, or more precisely, to put you mind at rest when you see a link to a site with a name such as excitations.photography you will know it is still us and not some affiliate with a too good to be true offer.

I know, we promised lots of sand and dust, but the above picture can be our first ever simple trick. Always take the time to look behind you. This shot was taken while waiting for a massive storm developing from the west. For a few brief seconds, the last rays of sunlight and a very light sprinkle of rain handed me this image. Had I kept focus on the approaching storm and not bothered to check behind, I would have missed this opportunity.

Now a confession, here at Outback Photography Tips and Tricks, we are not gear obsessed. That doesn’t mean we are clueless when it comes to the technical stuff. We just believe content is king.

Ian spent 40 years photographing and filming for a living, full-time and often seven days a week for weeks on end. Part of his expertise, was making things happen.  Problem solving using technical photographic knowledge. However, in recent times he has finally seen the light, and now obsesses far less with the technical , and more on the content. Photography can be broken down into two simple sides the HOW and WHY.
